Maureen Bartel was born in Liverpool, England, and came to the United States in 1956. She began botanical painting as a way of appreciating native North American plants, as well as other plants. Mrs. Bartel's work is in the collections of the Hunt Institute for Botanical Documentation, Pittsburgh, PA., and the Royal Botanic Gardens, Surrey, England. Her work has been shown at the National Arboretum, Washington, D.C., as well as at other locations in the United States and overseas.
