Marian has had a lifelong interest in art, nature and gardening. She started painting botanical watercolors in 1999 after taking a botanical painting class with Bente Starke-king for "fun". She has also taken instruction from Anne-Marie Evans and Carol Woodin. She received a BA degree in the Practice of Art from the University of California at Berkeley.

Marian is a member of the recently formed Fingerlakes chapter of the Guild of Natural Science Illustrators.
