Jesse Drake has been hiking, living and painting in the desert for decades. She began earning art awards in grade school. Part of her childhood included life on a cattle ranch in southeastern Arizona, which generated a lifelong interest in the desert southwest and a curiosity in nature and natural systems. Drake comes from a family of artists; both her parents, siblings, maternal aunt and paternal grandfather are artists. Drake earned a Bachelor of Science in Urban Design at Arizona State University and taught drawing and design in the College of Architecture at ASU for more than a decade. She earned certification by the American Institute of Certified Planners and worked as an architectural renderer and urban designer for years before dedicating herself full-time to painting. Drake has worked in watercolors, colored pencil, acrylic and mixed media, experimenting with techniques and materials in her work.
