| Joan Frain |
| A botanical artist and instructor for 30 years, Joan trained
as a graphic designer but quickly combined her love of gardening and
fine art, to focus completely on botanical illustration. Her first
position upon graduation from college was as staff artist for Longwood
Gardens. The birth of her first child, and the desire to be a stay at
home mom, lead to the addition of a studio to her home and the launch of
a freelance career. When executing her work, special attention is paid,
not only to botanical accuracy, but to composition as well. Joan is an award winning artist who works as well as teaches from her studio in Exton Pa. She is a board member and past president of The Philadelphia Society of Botanical Illustrators, and a member of both The American Society of Botanical Artists, The Delaware Center for Horticulture, and The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society. Her works can be found in various horticultural books and publications as well as private collections. Joan is married and the mother of two grown children. She divides her time between her home and studio in Exton, Pennsylvania and a summer home in Ocean City, New Jersey.
