Alana Lea

Alana is a botanical artist whose work integrates old-world character with contemporary verve. Over the years, she has developed a style that harmonizes beautiful imagery with informative and imaginative wordplays, resulting in spirited showpieces. Her signature works are digital collage featuring exquisitely rendered floral watercolors in a precise, yet lively style.

Alana's passion for flowers springs from a lifelong awe of the natural world. Nature is a sacred manuscript, she feels, and we can learn every lesson about living by simply observing it closely. A 30-year relationship with the plant kingdom as gardener, herbalist, and entrepreneur, has been food for her soul, as well as a boon to her career as an illustrator.

Born in Brazil, Alana has called many of the world's most colorful cities home. Forgoing a more traditional education (and a full scholarship to design school), she opted instead for the school of life experience, spending a year each in France, Morocco, England and Puerto Rico, living with artists and working alongside local craftspeople.

The eclectic appeal of Alana's work has garnered the attention of such diverse clients as The Smithsonian Institution, Fine Gardening Magazine, scientist /author Christian Drapeau, M. Sc., PlanTea®, Boise Cascade Corporation, and Ann Marra Design. Her paintings and prints reside in private collections throughout the United States, Canada and Britain.

When not creating in her Victorian cottage studio, Alana can be found digging in the garden, leading Dances of Universal Peace or trailing her works of art as they spiral the globe doing what they do best -- enriching viewers' minds and inspiring their hearts.

"All six of your artworks are prominently displayed in exhibition areas where thousands of visitors pass by each week. They complement the overall setting so well! Thank you again for loaning them to us to display in Nature's Jewels, A Living Exhibit of Orchids and Butterflies." ~Joyce Connolly,
The Smithsonian Institution

"Your work is beautifully expressive and was a lovely complement to the orchid and butterfly show cosponsored with the Smithsonian." ~Christine Flanagan, U.S. Botanic Garden
