Sheila is an international member of the ASBA. Sheila came to botanical art after a varied career in the arts. In 1951 she was a jewelry designer with the Henry Birks Co. in Vancouver, where she was invited to create a silver rose bowl to be given to Princess Elizabeth by the city of Vancouver. In 1961 she was awarded the grand prize in a national diamond ring design competition in Canada. Sheila also worked for various periods as an actress and theatrical scenic designer in Toronto and Montreal, where in 1971 she was the critics" choice for set designer of the year. During this time she played professionally as a freelance violinist with several Canadian Symphony orchestras and as a member of the orchestra with the Canadian tour of the Russian Bolshoi Ballet in 1979. She also played chamber music and string quartets. In 1986 Sheila began her career in botanical art. Her paintings are now included in the Hunt Institute for Botanical Documentation collection and the Shirley Sherwood collection, which begins its American tour with an exhibition at the Hunt Institute this September. Sheila's work is also included in many private collections. Sheila Siegerman has had a number of solo exhibits in Ontario, including the inaugural art show "Visions form the Gardens" at the Niagara Parks Botanical Gardens and School of Horticulture. She is one of the gallery artists with the McLaren-Barnes Gallery in Oakville (a suburb of Toronto), where every two years she presents a solo show of new works. Sheila Siegerman |
