History

The Institute established the International series in 1964 with the hope of supporting and encouraging contemporary botanical artists. Every three years, the International series attracts talented botanical artists from around the world, proving that in the world of art the infinite variety of plant forms and colors still holds special fascination and offers undiminished challenge and delight. Collectively, the catalogues from the 12 International exhibitions contain the most comprehensive record available of 20th-century botanical artists and illustrators—the number of individuals represented now totals 1,016.

 

Submission Guidelines

We will continue to seek information regarding fine artists and illustrators who have yet to be represented in this series for our 13th International slated for fall 2010. We will accept submissions until 1 November 2009. Any medium on paper or vellum will be considered. Botanical artists wishing to be considered for the 13th International should send a letter, a resume and up to a dozen slides or transparencies or high resolution digital images (300–600 pixels per inch) of their work to:

Contemporary botanical artists and illustrators represented in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th and/or 12th International Exhibitions of Botanical Art & Illustration (1964, 1968, 1972, 1977, 1983, 1988, 1992, 1995, 1998, 2001, 2004, 2007) at the Hunt Institute. Numbers after artists’ names refer to the International exhibitions/catalogues in which they are featured.
