| After acquiring the Michel Adanson Library, the Hunt Botanical Library organized a symposium on 1819 August 1963 to commemorate the bicentennial of Adanson’s publication of Familles des Plantes (17631764). This two-volume set features essays presented by participants in the symposium. Part one includes a biography by J.-P. Nicolas, a history of the Familles des Plantes by F. A. Stafleu, and an annotated catalogue of Adanson’s library by W. D. Margadant. Part two includes G. Duprat’s “Les dessinateurs d’histoire naturelle en France au XVIIIe siècle,” P. H. A. Sneath’s “Mathematics and classification, from Adanson to the present,” T. Monod’s “L’Oeuvre zoologique d’Adanson,” and F. A. Stafleu’s “Adanson’s sources, references, and abbreviations.” |
