Scope and content note for HI Archives collection no. 23
These papers relate to the work of the Commission in revising the International Code of Nomenclature for Cultivated Plants (first adopted in 1952). Included are the Commission’s membership list, minutes, proposals, reports, remarks, correspondence, notes, and related material concerning the revised Code (adopted December 1957). These items belonged to Dr. Lawrence, a member of the Commission and its Editorial Committee, and relate partly to the Commission’s November 1956 meeting in Utrecht. This collection also contains proposals from which the Code was drafted, various drafts, a report of the meeting on the International Committee on Horticultural Nomenclature and Registration (London, March 1955; 13 mimeographed pages) and a record of the Committee’s meetings held August and September 1955 at the Fourteenth International Horticultural Congress (Scheveningen, Holland; 19 mimeographed pages).
