Scope and content note
This collection includes programs, notes, addresses, memoranda, bulletins, newsletters, reports, brochures, maps, memorabilia, a small amount of correspondence, humorous artwork, and miscellaneous printed and mimeographed material concerning the Congress (Seattle, 24 August to 2 September 1969) and Pre-Congress Trip No. 4 (Muir Woods to Yosemite).
Also found here are items concerning the Congress Commemorative Stamp, including correspondence of Stamp Committee Chairman William L. Stern with botanists, government officials, and others, and some letters exchanged with Committee members George H. M. Lawrence, Robert F. Thorne, Kenton L. Chambers, Albert A. Piringer, and Frederick J. Hermann. In addition, there are mimeographed items, photographs, and other materials related to the planning, promotion, approval, and issuance of the stamp.
Five additional boxes of registration forms were received at the Institute in July 1973. These are being incorporated into the biographical folders of each individual.
